Christmas Celebration at Sea World

Did you know Sea World San Antonio is open every weekend in December and all through the kids’ winter break from school. It is and as I saw this weekend it has been transformed into an absolutely magical holiday destination.

Sea World is completely decked out in Christmas decorations that make it beautiful both in the daytime and at night. Giant bows, candy canes, greenery and poinsettia are everywhere you walk. Christmas music can be heard everywhere in the park to put you in a festive mood. Almost all the rides and attractions are open and there are special holiday shows going on every day.

At night Sea World really shows off with millions of gorgeous Christmas lights in places like the Candy Cane Forest. There are very few things I enjoy more in life than Christmas lights. Walking around Sea World this past Saturday night was thrilling.
During the holidays you can also smell roasted nuts and kettle corn for sale at some of the snack shops. They have a special souvenir mug (I got one!) perfect for hot chocolate and a deal for coffee and cocoa refills for 99 cents.
Some of the Christmas shows you can enjoy are Clyde and Seamore’s Countdown to Christmas, Sesame Street Christmas, Reflections, A Dolphin Christmas, and Shamu Christmas…Miracles.

The set for the Clyde and Seamore show was very festive and I found the show much funnier than I did during the summer.

Of course for the penguins it’s always a wintery wonderland! The penguins are my favorites and I learned that they love to stand under the snow like this little guy, and sometime just open their mouths and eat it right from the sky.

I still haven’t seen the Azul show which is now A Dolphin Christmas with the beluga whales but friends tell me it’s the best show at the park. For now my favorite show is definitely seeing Shamu. It is breathtaking to see those ginormous animals leap out of the water. This time they even had a live saxophone player performing Christmas music to the audience before the show started.

The last show of the night is called Reflections and it takes place right at the opening gate in front of the beautiful park Christmas tree. A cast of characters sing amid falling snow and encourage the audience to sing along to lots of familiar carols. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a lovely day.

My trip to Sea World this weekend was for an overnight gathering of the Sea World Wildside bloggers. I must tell you that my admission to the park, my meals and some other exciting adventures I’ll write about in another post were provided to me free of charge by the park, but they did not ask me to write anything and I’m only doing so because OMG, it’s so awesome.
I’m planning on bringing my entire family back to Sea World during the kids’ school vacation after Christmas, possibly even for the New Year’s Eve Twilight Party. I just loved Sea World at Christmas and I think your family would love it too!
