Knowledge is like manure

I just read the funniest quote from a woman who I really look up to and respect in my industry. She said, “Knowledge is like manure, it’s only good if you spread it around.” If you’re not in our business you might find that disgusting but we love to talk about poo, especially when it is well treated and put to good use fertilizing farmland. Her name is Lynn Orphan and she has risen to the position of President of the Water Environment Federation for 2005 at a relatively young age. She is a consulting engineer from Nevada and she has two daughters who she clearly adores. I have had the pleasure of spending time with her at many industry functions and she is a genuinely nice person. She has always made time to talk to me and encouraged my efforts in our trade association. Her position requires her to be away from home a huge amount of time for four years so she must be dedicated and I’m sure she makes time for her girls. Anyway…here’s to Lynn!

Hook ’em Horns

Days like these I have to look at pictures like this one and smile, because there’s not much else to smile about. Mike is away and we are getting significant accumulation of snow, which I will have to clear if I want to go anywhere tomorrow. There’s stuff with the business that’s not good but I can’t go into that here. And I just talked to my good friend who’s only 40 and has terminal cancer. I wish there were something I could do to comfort her more than just telling her I’m praying for her.

I didn’t find anything to comment on in the news today because the local news doesn’t cover anything except weather and traffic during snowstorms. The only other thing I know is that the Pope is in the hospital again and had a trachiotomy. Which makes me remember a funny conversation I had with my former boss about how the Pope has been walking death for years and when is he just gonna die and how do they pick a new Pope. My former boss is Catholic so I didn’t feel bad being so sacreligious since he was pretty much the one joking about it. Remembering that bums me out too because I miss those conversations so much and I can’t talk to him anymore what with his company suing me. UGH!  Posted by Hello
