Happy Spring Forward Day!

Sunrise behind my house.

I wonder how many people missed church today because they forgot to reset their clocks last night. The only time I ever recall having done this was once in college. I remember it clearly because Mike and I didn’t go to church super regularly in college, but this was an Easter Sunday and I was determined to go. We were even going to a real church off campus, not the student church that met in the student union a short walk from my dorm. When we did go to church it was usually there. But that Sunday I got all dressed up in an Easter-y dress and Mike probably even wore a tie. We drove over to the big old Presbyterian church thinking we were a few minutes early and were shocked to find a full parking lot. One of us realized what had happened before we even walked in. Not wanting to be totally embarrassed as visitors to a new church we bailed and ended up having a lovely breakfast at the Waffle Shop.

This weekend my sister was in town for a conference and I was watching her six month old daughter for her.  When she booked her flights out here and back she didn’t realize she’d be losing an hour tonight. She wanted to get home to early to see her other kids plus the fare was cheaper so she picked a 7am flight home. I live about an hour from the airport, plus she had a rental car to return, plus she needed to nurse the baby before she left my house to head to the airport. Also she needed to fill up the rental car with gas. So basically she had to wake up and leave my house by 3:30 am this morning.

She came home from last night’s keynote at about 11pm. She still had to pack her stuff and probably didn’t get to sleep till about 12:30 am. The big question was this…when would her iPhone automatically spring forward and was it before or after her alarm was set to go off at 2:45 am? Turns out it didn’t switch till 2:59, so it’s a good thing I provided her with another alarm clock! I got up at 3:30 am to see her off too, so…ouch. At least I got to go back to bed and not deal with rental car return and airport security while toting an infant.

My boys somehow woke up at 6 am so my family made it to church on time but the first service was unbelievably empty.
